Michelle Drains, ND the owner and founder of Riverbirch Holistic Health, sees the body as a cohesive system with an innate ability to heal itself. As such, it’s just as important to address the immediate symptoms as it is to examine the underlying causes of a health complaint; there’s no sense in applying a band aid if the wound won’t heal. When you work with her, you’re promised a passionate and supportive partnership to understand your daily habits and support your long-term health goals.
Your first visit lasts about 90 mins and follow up visits typically range from 30-60 minutes depending on the purpose. Why the long time? Dr. Drains does a full health history and intake and review of recent labs. She requires sufficient time to ask questions and understand your health goals. She may also recommend additional assessments to fully understand your current health status. She may recommend specialized assessments to help better determine how the body is functioning and where it requires help.
Your second visit typically involves reviewing and presenting your individualized wellness plan (which may include any of the following modalities), tailored to you and compiled from the information gathered in the previous visit and evaluation.
She uses an eclectic style of care drawing upon one or several modalities for each client. In addition to the physical, exploration of mental, emotional and spiritual health is always a part of a holistic and balanced investigation into your individual state of wellness
Such therapies may include but are not limited to:

Ear seed therapy, also known as auricular therapy, is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine which observes the ear as a microcosm of the body. It’s based on the principle that the ear represents the body as a whole, with parts of the ear corresponding to other areas and organs in the body. Auricular therapy uses points of the ear, along with small round seeds which are modestly taped on areas of the outer ear, which the client may press over the course of 3-4 days as additional stimulation for the points.
Ear Seed Therapy is widely used for many conditions, including addiction treatment, smoking cessation, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and much more. The points found on the ear help to regulate the body's internal organs, structures, and functions.
Each Session takes approximately 15-20 minutes

She is a member of the AANP (American Association of Naturopathic Physicians) and of the NCANP (North Carolina Association of Naturopathic Physicians) and maintains a Naturopathic license in New Hampshire and Oregon. She functions as a wellness provider using a holistic approach where the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical aspects of a person are recognized to be interrelated for optimum health. She practices healing arts that rely on the body’s inherent healing capacity and utilizes a wide range of therapeutic systems to work with the body to assist healing.
